FARMINGTON (April 1, 2011) – The Farmington Downtown Development Authority (DDA) recently re-elected Robert Rock as its President. He is the owner of Thayer-Rock Funeral Home and lifelong Farmington resident. Rock joins returning Vice-President Steve Schneemann, proprietor of S3 Architecture, PLLC, and Secretary Dan Higgins, owner of Visibles Marketing.

In accordance with its by-laws, the DDA conducts an election of officers at its regular meeting each March. This year’s election was held on March 28.

Rock was appointed to the DDA in 2007 and has presided for the past year. In his leadership role he continues to work toward improving communications and encouraging volunteerism.

“Bob and his executive team are our all-stars,” said Annette Knowles, DDA Executive Director. “Their careful guidance and leadership are keeping us focused and headed in a positive direction.”

Rock intends to support the DDA’s important work of promoting the downtown to visitors and new businesses even in a year when many are concerned about the economy. With the Grand River Avenue Streetscape completed and an active calendar of events in place, Rock’s goals as President are to help businesses succeed by attracting more people to the downtown, to market the downtown as an opportunity for new businesses and to expand the volunteer base to support the DDA’s Main Street Program.

“We need to be sensitive to what is going on in our town,” Rock said. “We are working to partner with our businesses, help our businesses expand and help them to begin the kinds of initiatives that they otherwise cannot afford to launch. We would like to share DDA resources with the community to strengthen partnerships with businesses that are struggling or those that have ideas they are unable to act upon.”

Rock also mentioned the importance of attracting people to Downtown Farmington for Farmington’s events as well as the DDA’s efforts to work on business recruitment.
