Farmington, MI. (March 22, 2012) The Farmington Downtown Development Authority announced the winner of its 2011 Mary Martin Service Award on March 13. For the first time in award history, the recipient was a team rather than an individual. Diane Cassidy and her staff at Farmington's Salon Legato – Team Legato – won the award for their work with hosting Alley Regalley, a fund raising event co-hosted by the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce. The event is held during the Downtown Farmington Founders Festival.

The Mary Martin Service Award is given annually to a volunteer in the Main Street Program who has exhibited exemplary service to downtown Farmington. In 2011, Alley Regalley raised $2,500 for the Farmington/Farmington Hills After-School Program.

The award presentation was held at the seventh annual volunteer celebration, Farmington Friends and Fettuccini. Nearly 100 active volunteers packed Luigi’s Trattoria in downtown Farmington to celebrate a successful 2011.

Also nominated for the award were: volunteer of 50 years, Carol Kurth; husband and wife duo, Jeff and Audrey Brown; event food and beverage coordinator, Mike Kuntz; Founders Festival entertainment coordinator Sarah Dickey; and Farmers Market assistant, Bill McNeil, with sidekick Dodger.

“We recognize the dedication and hard work of all volunteers,” said Annette Knowles. “It’s great to be able to spend an evening recognizing all of them.”

The Farmington DDA has grown its volunteer database to include more than 200 volunteers, but is still in search of helpful people. To kick off the 2012 calendar of events, a volunteer pep rally is tentatively slated for May 15. Anyone is welcome to come and assess the volunteer opportunities.
