Walter E. Sundquist Farmington Pavilion in Riley Park

FarmingtonDDA-Dancing Residents at Rhythms Concert
The City of Farmington and Wayne State University developed a plan designed to make Farmington a stronger community.  The concept was to create a centralized gathering place to house a farmers market and other events.

A group of concerned community members studied the idea and found farmers markets play a key role in developing a sense of place.  In addition, they provide economic vibrancy.

While the concept was approved, funding was required.  Walter E. Sundquist, owner of Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, stepped forward with a large donation to ensure success of the pavilion which opened in 2005.

Today, the Walter E. Sundquist Pavilion is home to the successful Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market that averages thousands of visitors each Saturday.

The pavilion is located in the heart of Downtown Farmington adjacent to Riley Park.  The park was named after George F. Riley who, through The Riley Foundation, donated the funds for its construction.

Perhaps the best known park event is Rhythmz in Riley Park.  This summertime concert series is attended by about 500 each Friday, June-August.  Family Fun in Riley Park – entertainment for kids – also takes place during the summer.

Riley Park is becoming a fan favorite - voted Metro-Detroit’s 2nd best in WDIV’s Vote 4 the Best Contest in the outdoor concert venue category.
