The Farmington Downtown Development Authority has elected its officers for 2012 at its annual meeting, held on Monday, March 26.
Returning to leadership roles are President Robert Rock, resident and owner of Thayer-Rock Funeral Home and Secretary Dan Higgins, owner of Visibles Marketing.
Rounding out the slate of officers as new Vice-President is Melissa Andrade, resident and owner of Silver Tree Yoga.
The trio is expected to continue to navigate the DDA through bright spots and challenges. Pressures from reductions in resources will remain a factor as the organization strives to fulfill its mission to create and promote the place of Downtown Farmington.
“I appreciate the continued support and confidence of the DDA board and I will work hard, making our downtown a better place. Economic development and supporting our merchants will remain a high priority for this board. Our events will attract thousands of visitors to the downtown and our merchants will see continued success,” commented Rock, whose is entering his third year as President.
The opportunity to carry on the recent successes led Andrade to consider accepting the Vice-Presidency, a position which assumes the responsibilities in absence of the President. She steps up after completing her first year of service as a board member.
Andrade lauded the efforts of the DDA, past and present. “I feel fortunate to have come onto the board at a time when our Downtown is blossoming – we’ve experienced a wildly successful farmers market this past year, which is back-dropped by the city’s new streetscape.”
“Today, I walked downtown to look at the DIA’s Inside:Out exhibit. These are all the results of the hard work, passion and dedication of the DDA. I am honored to serve on a board that moves our community forward in such a positive way.”
Higgins returns as Secretary, a position he has held for two years. “The Farmington DDA is important to the vitality of this community during such challenging times. It’s important for me as a business owner to step forward and work to help other businesses succeed.”
After serving two years as Vice-President, Steven Schneemann, resident and owner of S3 Architecture, has opted to focus on his role as Chairperson of the DDA’s Main Street Design Committee. Work to prepare and review concepts for redevelopment and streetscape projects is expected to remain steady in the forthcoming year.
“It has been an honor to serve in the VP role alongside President Bob Rock for the past two years. The position has allowed me to provide support to the DDA President as we have transitioned from a period of positive, rapid and substantive changes within the DDA to a period of sharpening focus on some of our ongoing core efforts.”
Rock, Andrade and Higgins’ year-long leadership positions were effective following the completion of the election.
